Transfer Students

This page highlights the resources, programs, and community spaces available to support transfer students as you transition to UC Merced. Whether you’re coming from a community college or another university, the TRV is here to help you feel confident, connected, and supported.

What is a Transfer Student?

A Transfer Student is someone who has previously taken college-level courses at another accredited institution after finishing high school, excluding summer classes immediately after high school graduation. This includes students coming from two-year community colleges or other four-year universities.

Transfer Resources & Support 

  • Transfer Scholars Program

    • ​The Transfer Scholars Program is a program designed to support transfer students during their time here at UC Merced through scholarship funding. Eligibility into the program is by invite only and is solely determined by the Office of Financial Aid, click here for specific eligibility requirements. 

  • Transfer LLC

    • ​The Transfer Living Learning Community (LLC) is an on-campus housing option in our apartment style residence hall, Valley Terrace. The LLC provides a supportive environment for transfer students to successfully transition to UC Merced’s culture and community. We aim to provide resources that vary widely from freshmen services because we recognize the support you need is different.
    • Part of the requirements of the LLC include:
      • Attending (1) personal or professional development workshop
      • Attending (1) social function
      • And, meeting with the TRV Coordinator once a semester.

  • National Transfer Student Week

    • National Transfer Student Week (NTSW) is a nationwide celebration observed by colleges and universities across the country each October to recognize the experiences, contributions, and success of transfer students. At UC Merced, the TRV hosts a series of programs, workshops, and social events throughout the week to welcome new transfer students, highlight campus resources, and foster connection and community. NTSW offers opportunities to meet fellow transfer students, connect with campus partners, learn about academic and personal support services, and celebrate the unique paths that brought students to UC Merced.
